The Path to UNESCO Biosphere Region Designation: Step Two

Since submitting our completed nomination document to the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (CCUNESCO) in Ottawa, we have received comments back from three reviewers appointed by CCUNESCO. The reviewers responded to a series of questions to ensure the information contained in the document meets the requirements of the statutory framework of the Man and the Biosphere program.

We are pleased to say we have a solid proposal. The experienced reviewers provided insightful comments and questions to ensure once designated; we are a sustainable organization with a clear plan for the Biosphere Reserve and a well-organized governance model in place.

We are now working on responding to the reviewer’s comments and intending to submit our final and complete document in July. Once CCUNESCO is satisfied, and we receive their endorsement, they will send it to UNESCO in Paris in September, and that will be step 2 complete. In the meantime, we are busy with strategic planning and continuing to engage more people.
