Principles for Cooperation 3.0
In 2002 Elected officials from around Howe Sound signed the Principles for Cooperation. The original document is here.
In 2014, the forum members made amendments to include more references to sustainability. The signed 2014 document is here.
In 2017 a sub-committee of the forum aimed to update the document to be more respectful of First Nations, but never adopted.
2022 marks the 20th year of the signing of the Principles for Cooperation. These forums and the principles serve a fundamental role in the success and sustainability of the Atl’ka7tsem/ Howe Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region. The forums continue to be well attended by government representatives and observers.
The 2022 proposed updates reflect the societal changes since 2014. Respect for First Nations and recognition of the role of the convening organizations. Tracked changes are here. Moving forward together is more important than ever as the region faces the challenges of climate change, population growth and biodiversity loss. With the Biosphere Region’s Nchu'ú7mut/Unity Plan development, the Howe Sound Community Forum remains an essential gathering for the authorities who govern the region.
