2022 marks the 20th year of the signing of the Principles for Cooperation. Changes are proposed to update the wording to respect First Nations and the role of the Secretariate. These changes improve the language with respect to First Nations and acknowledge the services of the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative Society. Moving forward together is more important than ever as the region faces the challenges of climate changes, population growth and biodiversity loss.

Planning, organizing, convening and reporting on the forums since 2014, have been the voluntary services of the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative Society. Working with the local government hosts, this unofficial role is based on trust and track record. HSBRIS is proposing member communities of the Howe Sound Community Forums enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative Society that recognizes the services provided and are sustained, along with the responsibilities for managing and sustaining the UNESCO designation.
