We are close to submitting our official application to have Howe Sound / Atl’Kitsem designated by the United Nations as an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and we need your help!

UNESCO Biospheres are model regions and dynamic learning sites for collaborative projects of all kinds. Biosphere reserves promote biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. We believe Howe Sound deserves this recognition and having the designation will strategically influence future planning in the region to be more focused on sustainable development. This is especially important in the absence of a comprehensive land and marine use plan for the Howe Sound region.

Will you help create a legacy for future generations by donating today?

Becoming internationally recognized as Canada's 19th UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is  a long term commitment that will require continuous partnerships and financial support. In the short term, we need to raise $30,000 to carry us through the nomination process.  We already have a commitment from a donor who will match up to $10,000 raised - so we are off to a good start!
